Defining Freedom

Freedom is something people talk about all the time. We live in the land of the free, freedom to make our own choices, freedom to say what we want to say, and be who we want to be. Freedom is one of our core values as a family and a business and it is something we are striving for, but what exactly does that mean? What does that look like for us?

Freedom in defined as the quality or state of being free. The absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action. ease, facility. The quality of being frank, open, or outspoken. Boldness of conception or execution. These are all so good.

The message version of the popular verse 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 is so amazing and explains so well what we feel like freedom looks like. “Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.” A relationship with God, a living, personal presence, will bring freedom. We become more like him and our true selves shine through, our lives gradually become brighter and more beautiful.

Our goal is to live a life of freedom. We want the freedom to follow the impulses of our soul. We want freedom to travel to an orphanage in China without worrying about how much paid leave we have left. We want freedom to support a family that wants to adopt without making sure we can also make the rent one month. We want freedom to meet new people, explore new places, and build new relationships WHENEVER the opportunity arises. We want freedom from the 9-5 by building a business that feeds our soul and makes a difference in this world.

It’s not about absence of responsibility or caving to every desire you may have. We actually think freedom requires more responsibility and determination. It requires intentionality and focus and at times you have to freaking fight really hard for it. Freedom isn’t free.

So, we will strive to be frank, open, and outspoken in everything we do. We promise to be BOLD in our conception and execution of everything we produce and put into the world. We will grow in relationship with God, our faces shining with the brightness of his, standing in his freedom. We will always help others in reaching their own freedom and truth and encourage anyone else along the way. This is our freedom.
